10 Reasons Not to Move to Naples FL

Hi friend,

Naples Florida has great golf, shopping, and beaches making it a wonderful place for "snow birds" or vacationers but is it really a place you want to permanently move to?  Today, I would like to share with you 10 reasons NOT to move to Naples Florida.

  1. Housing Costs: The median value of a home in Naples is $700,000 with over 60% of the homes over $1 million. The only more affordable housing options are condos which may not be ideal for a larger family.
  2. Rain: If it is not sunny, it may be POURING. The rain is heaviest in June, July, August, and September, providing over 8 inches of rain on average. You can also expect 2-3 inches of rain per month outside of that.
  3. Traffic: The traffic in Naples can be problematic if you commute into the city. You can expect an extra 30 minutes each day if you need to use the Golden Gate or Immokalee.
  4. Insects: The warmer weather brings spiders, frogs, lizards and snakes. Naples is close to the everglades and coast so it is not uncommon to spot gators lounging in the sun. The mosquitos are also a huge problem due to the wet, humid climate.
  5. HOA fees: You may end up paying thousands of dollars each year in HOA fees! The communities in Naples tend to change their HOA fees quarterly and can sometimes take advantage of homeowners.
  6. Tourism: Florida is a popular tourist destination making it prone to swarms of tourists. While these people bring a lot of money to Naples and stimulate the economy, the constant congestion can irritate people.
  7. Not Super Kid-Friendly: Only about 10% of the residents of Naples are under the age of 18, which is less than half of the national average.
  8. Hurricanes: Naples is located on the Gulf Coast of southern Florida meaning it is at considerable risk for hurricane damage.
  9. High Cost of Living: Not only are the housing prices and HOA fees going to kill you, you will find that things like groceries, insurance and gasoline will be priced higher than the national average.
  10. Retirement Mentality: If you are looking to retire, Naples is a great place. If you’re young or like to go out at night, it might not be the best fit because it tends to cater to the retirement or “snow-bird” population.

If reading this list made you sad, don't be! I know each city has its fair share of pros and cons, I just thought it would be helpful to share the most common complaints for living in Naples. No city is perfect but you should continue to keep HOUSTON in your home search. (: If you have any questions about your relocation to Texas, please contact me.
